ACTION ITEMS

CE Presentation: John Navarra presented an update on Legal and Practice Issues Facing Our Profession.  Info covered included: patient inducements, counterfeit drugs, manpower shortage, technology, med errors, CE (mandatory 3 hr on Med Error – live or self study), electronic prescribing, discipline process and Medicaid audit initiatives (certain penalties by state board will cause Medicaid Inspector General to disqualify the pharmacist from participation in Medicaid program).

Tammie Lee Demler, PSSNY’s President, addressed the group with examples of how she plans on leading the organization over the next year eg. Increasing membership, media campaign.  She encourages the membership to send her issues.   She recognized John Navarra on behalf of PSSNY for the work that both he and his wife have done with Maternity Services of Catholic Guardian Society.

Minutes: Minutes were approved and will be posted on website.  Note: Medicaid wrap around coverage for the following classes: antipsychotics, antidepressants, HIV ART and immunosuppressant transplant agents.   

Treasurer Report: Account is the black and approved by chairman of board.

Committee Reports:

• Membership Committee: 187 paid members.  Ray is still collecting dues for 2006.
• Newsletter Committee: Distribution will be within next 2 weeks.  Fran encourages pictures of store displays or anything newsworthy.
• CE Committee: Next program 10/12/06 will be 2 hr starting at 8pm on Medication Errors – “Improving Patient Safety” by Craig Burridge, Executive Director of PSSNY.
• Legislative Report: PBM transparency was not passed.  Medicaid cuts not in effect.  AMP not defined.  PSSNY needs money for media campaign.
• Dinner Dance Committee: Save the date 3/34/07 at Leonards of Great Neck.  Nominee forms have been posted on website.  Complete and forward suggestions to Joe Navarra.  Armand has agreed to be emcee at dance.
• IPS Website – Check out the updates. Archive section for newsletter and meeting minutes.  Direct links to external sites eg. NPI # application, Medicaid Disqualified Provider List.  Scholarship application posted on site.  Email Joe any ideas for site.

Old Business:

• Klondike Boat Ride – Departing Sat. 9/23 at 6:30pm from New Rochelle. Ray is still accepting reservations.  Don’t miss this year’s event for only $60 per person.

New Business:

• Christmas Party: Save the date – Monday, 12/11 at 7pm at Caffee on Green by invitation only.
• Ephedrine Mandatory Training Program - Effective 9/30/06 pseudoephedrine containing products must be stored behind the counter.  Complete DEA training by accessing http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/meth/index.html.
• SJU SAPHA Donation – SJU is hosting an event and seeking donation from local organizations.  Recommendation to board to donate $200 to event.
• New York State Comptroller Unclaimed Funds – Visit http://www.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/index.htm and see if there is a check waiting for you.
• Defensive Driving – Let Fran know if you are interested in reducing your auto insurance by 10% as well as receive point reduction.
